2014/2015 has been a very busy academic year for the IUM Football Team.

In April 2015, the team’s captain, Alec Flohil, current BSc in Business Administration, has organized the first edition of the IUM Football Cup.

The IUM Football Cup is a tournament organized for IUM students and alumni only. Six teams competed for an entire day in La Turbie, France.

Furthermore, on Saturday, May 16th, the IUM football Team took part in the fifth edition of the 7-a-side football tournament of the Challenge Rainier III, which involved corporations from all over the Principality. The IUM Team won the final even though they were one man down for almost half of the game. By the end of the regular time, IUM and Omnium Sport Monaco were drawing 2-2 thanks to two goals scored by IUM’s midfielder Patricio Penayo. The winner of the pool B then had to be decided by penalty shoot-outs. The IUM goalkeeper, Maximilian Nahi, didn’t concede two out of five penalties, managing to overturn an initial miss from IUM and leaving the final penalty kick to the captain Alec Flohil, who scored and brought the victory to the IUM Team. The victorious team took the trophy back to IUM.

On a final note, captain Alec Flohil wants to sincerely thank everyone involved in this year’s football team, including the players for their availability and the university for its support. This year’s success has demonstrated that hard practice and team’s efforts really pays off. I definitely looks forward playing again with the IUM Football next year, with the new team captain Charles Descalzi.
