Since January 2021, Dr. Mariateresa Torchia is the new DBA program Director.
Mariateresa Torchia is Associate Professor of Management at IUM since 2018 and Director of Research since 2019.
She holds a Ph.D. in Management and Governance from the University of Rome “Tor Vergata.” Her main research interest is in the area of Corporate Governance, Family Business, and Gender Diversity. She is currently chair of the Track Board of Directors and Top Management Teams at the European Academy of Management.
As Mariateresa explained: Our DBA candidates come from different business backgrounds, from multinational companies to founders of their businesses. All of them hold managerial positions. They aim at enhancing their professional skills by combining academic rigor and managerial relevance. During the DBA program, candidates get all the necessary support from highly qualified advisors, to develop their thinking, identify a managerial problem, and evaluate and implement solutions that have a real, practical impact.
She takes over as successor of Dr. Hans Muhlbacher, who holds this position for the past 6 years.
As Hans specified: Together with a number of highly engaged faculty members we have launched and built a quite successful program. The experienced managers participating in the program come from all over the world. Exchanges during residential weeks are highly intensive. The ambiance of the meetings is enthusiastic. Until the end of 2020, seventeen candidates had successfully finished the program and had produced eleven publications in international journals, nine of them in ranked journals, six ranked A, said Hans.
Since my step back to the status of emeritus, the program has gained an excellent new director. Dr. Torchia is an internationally highly respected researcher in the fields of family business and governance. Her experience in publishing in high level journals and her international reputation make her the ideal new academic director of the program. Mariateresa is the Research Director of the IUM at the same time, a perfect combination of important academic roles. I will support her in every respect and wish her and the DBA program the very best success they deserve.
