Vittorio Svaldo Lanero’s Internship at Parma Calcio 1913

What does it really take to build a career in professional football, beyond the pitch?

For Vittorio Svaldo Lanero, student in the MSc in Sports Business Management, the answer became clear through a hands-on experience inside one of Italy’s most historic clubs.

Monaco: Where Careers Take Shape

For Vittorio, choosing Monaco was a strategic decision.

The unique sporting environment in Monaco, combined with professors who bring years of industry experience, offered the perfect match,” he explains.

At IUM, learning goes far beyond theory. Surrounded by international events and industry experts, Vittorio developed a deep understanding of the global sports ecosystem, gaining insights that, as he highlights, are “not found in textbooks.”

These experiences gave him the confidence to step into the professional world and navigate the complexities of football management.

Inside the Parma Youth Sector

Joining Parma Calcio 1913 was a natural step for a student eager to understand how long-term success in football is built.

I was strongly motivated to join Parma because it is a youth-focused club with a clear goal of investing in and developing young talent,” Vittorio says. Working within the General Secretariat of the Youth Sector, he quickly found himself at the operational core of the club.

Behind the scenes, his role includes:

  • ensuring compliance with sporting regulations and contracts
  • coordinating logistics for national and international tournaments
  • supporting the administrative structure of the academy

Far from the spotlight, this is where the real engine of a football club operates.

From Student to Problem-Solver

Vittorio didn’t just observe, he contributed.

Faced with a high volume of tournament invitations, he identified a key inefficiency in workflow management. Drawing on the entrepreneurial mindset developed at IUM, he designed and implemented a structured filing and management system.

This initiative significantly improved organization and efficiency.

Everything needs to be well-organized to keep operations and budgets under control,” he notes.

His experience reflects a key strength of IUM students: the ability to turn academic knowledge into practical solutions.

A Fast-Paced Industry Driven by Passion

Working in football also means adapting to constant change.

Deadlines are tight, schedules shift quickly, and unexpected challenges are part of daily operations.

For Vittorio, however, this is exactly what makes the experience rewarding: “Passion is what truly drives you to work in this sector; without it, this is not an industry for everyone.”

Building the Future Through Experience

Beyond technical skills, this internship has been a powerful human and professional experience.

By collaborating with clubs, organizers, and international stakeholders, Vittorio has expanded his network and strengthened his career direction, confirming his ambition to work at the heart of the football industry.

Vittorio Svaldo Lanero’s journey highlights the value of combining academic excellence with real-world experience.

Through opportunities like this, the International University of Monaco continues to prepare future professionals to lead the sports industry with precision, innovation, and passion.
