A new academic year has officially begun at the International University of Monaco, and the IUM campus has been buzzing with energy as 620 new students have come together for Orientation Week.

Held over the past two weeks, Orientation Week is an important milestone for our incoming students. It marks the start of their IUM journey and gives them a chance to explore the university, meet their classmates, connect with the IUM community, and start building the international network that will accompany them throughout their studies.

A truly international community

One of the defining characteristics of IUM is the diversity of its student body. This year’s incoming cohort is once again remarkably international, with students representing more than 70 different nationalities. France, Italy and the United States are the three most represented nationalities among this year’s new students, with a particularly strong presence from the United States.

The new cohort also reflects the growing diversity of IUM’s international community. We are delighted to welcome back a strong representation of students from India, alongside an important presence from Eastern European countries, with Bulgaria particularly well represented this year.

This diversity is more than a number. It is an essential part of the IUM experience. Students arrive from different countries, cultures, educational systems, and personal backgrounds, creating an environment where learning extends well beyond the classroom.

Starting the IUM journey together

For many students, Orientation Week is their first opportunity to experience life at IUM and in Monaco. It is a chance to put faces to names, make new friends, and begin developing relationships with students they may work with, learn from and collaborate with throughout their university experience, and beyond.

For others, it represents the beginning of a new chapter in an international academic journey.

Throughout Orientation Week, students are introduced to the university and the resources available to them, while getting familiar with their new environment and the wider IUM community. These first days are designed to help students feel at home, understand what it means to be part of IUM, and approach the academic year with confidence.

More than an academic experience

At IUM, we believe that an international education is about more than studying in another country. It is about learning to engage with different perspectives, developing an open mindset, and building the skills needed to navigate an increasingly global world.

Because the IUM experience is also about building connections and enjoying student life, Orientation Week concludes with a memorable welcome cocktail on the beach. Against the backdrop of the Mediterranean, students can relax, celebrate the start of their university journey, and get to know one another in a more informal setting.

It is the perfect way to bring together a diverse new community and to officially kick off their IUM adventure in Monaco.

Welcome to IUM and welcome to the beginning of your journey in Monaco!
