As the International University of Monaco celebrates its 40th anniversary, a new academic year is underway, bringing a growing community, new developments, and an increasingly international student body.
This year, IUM welcomes 1,250 students, including 620 new students representing more than 70 nationalities. Over the past two weeks, the campus has come alive as our new students took part in Orientation Week and began their journey at IUM.
A truly international community
France, Italy, and the United States are the three most represented nationalities among this year’s incoming students, with a particularly strong presence from the United States. The cohort also welcomes a strong return of students from India, alongside a growing presence from Eastern Europe, particularly Bulgaria.
This diversity is one of the defining features of the IUM experience. Students from different cultures, backgrounds, and educational systems come together, creating an environment where learning extends far beyond the classroom.
Orientation Week gives students the opportunity to discover the university, meet their classmates, get familiar with Monaco, and start building the connections that will shape their experience at IUM.
A university continuing to grow
IUM’s development is reflected in both its community and its facilities. New facilities are scheduled for completion next spring, adding offices, four large classrooms, and dedicated student areas.
The university is also expanding its faculty, with 43 new professors joining this academic year, and the faculty is expected to continue growing in the coming years.
This growth is supported by important academic milestones. In June, IUM renewed its international accreditations (AACSB) for another six years, while its master’s in finance was ranked among the top 20 programs in the world by the Financial Times.
Preparing students for the future
As the professional world continues to evolve, IUM is also strengthening its approach to artificial intelligence. An AI learning pathway has been integrated into all programs, helping students develop the skills to use AI professionally, critically assess its outputs, and apply it responsibly.
As Dr. Jean-Philippe Muller, IUM Director General and Dean, explains: “AI needs to become a value-added complement to their learning, not the other way around.”
Starting the IUM journey together
For many students, Orientation Week is their first opportunity to experience life at IUM and in Monaco. It is a chance to put faces to names, make new friends, and begin developing relationships with students they may work with, learn from, and collaborate with throughout their university experience, and beyond.
For others, it represents the beginning of a new chapter in an international academic journey.
Throughout Orientation Week, students are introduced to the university and the resources available to them, while getting familiar with their new environment and the wider IUM community. These first days are designed to help students feel at home, understand what it means to be part of IUM, and approach the academic year with confidence.
The week concluded with a welcome cocktail on the beach, giving students the opportunity to relax, meet new friends, and celebrate the beginning of their IUM journey against the backdrop of the Mediterranean.
