Preparing Bachelor’s Students for the Job Market

At the International University of Monaco, preparing students for the job market goes far beyond academic learning.

Throughout the year, the Career Center organizes a wide range of initiatives designed to help students develop their professional skills, expand their networks, and gain a deeper understanding of the industries they aspire to join.

One highlights of the academic year is Career Week, an intensive program of workshops, masterclasses, coaching sessions, and meetings with industry professionals. From luxury and fashion to motorsport and consulting, students can learn directly from experts who share practical advice, career insights, and first-hand experiences.

For 1st year Bachelor’s student Arev, Career Week proved to be a defining experience.

Building a Personal Brand for the Luxury Industry

During the Fashion Industry Masterclass led by Clotilde Antoine, Arev discovered that professional success begins long before the first interview.

One idea that really stayed with me is the importance of how we present ourselves, especially on platforms like LinkedIn.
Your profile is not just a CV; it’s a story. Even the smallest details help define who you are and what makes you different.

The workshop also emphasized the importance of building a strong personal brand and developing a hybrid profile that combines academic knowledge with extracurricular experiences, personal initiatives, and international exposure.

For students aspiring to careers in fashion and luxury, understanding where they want to work and why is just as important as developing the technical skills required by the industry.

Learning from Industry Professionals

Career Week also offered students the opportunity to explore careers they may never have considered.

A session led by Camille Ossevoort, Inter Europol Competition Team Assistant & Event Coordinator, provided an inside look at the fast-paced world of motorsport event management.

The presentation highlighted the complexity behind every race weekend, from logistics and internal communication to coordinating travel, accommodation, and operations under tight deadlines.

One message particularly resonated with Arev:

Make the most of your time at IUM and step outside your comfort zone. Monaco offers so many opportunities to connect, learn, and grow through events. Take them!

For students, it was a powerful reminder that professional success depends not only on technical expertise, but also on initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to seize every opportunity.

Developing the Consulting Mindset

Another memorable experience came through an intensive coaching session on consulting case studies with Claire Kinselley, PCC, and Enrico Cocchi-Skinner.

Although originally planned as a group workshop, the session became an almost one-to-one coaching opportunity, allowing Arev to dive deeply into the consulting recruitment process.

While working on a market entry case for an innovative fitness company, the exercise demonstrated that consulting interviews are designed less to test knowledge than to evaluate analytical thinking and structured problem-solving.

Reflecting on the experience, Arev shared:

Consulting is not just about solving a problem; it’s about how you approach it.

The session reinforced several essential skills for future professionals: understanding the problem before jumping to conclusions, asking the right questions, structuring ideas clearly, remaining calm under pressure, and, last but not least, supporting recommendations with sound analysis and well-reasoned assumptions.

Preparing Students for Their Future Careers

Career Week perfectly illustrates IUM’s commitment to experiential and career-focused education.

By connecting students with experienced professionals across a wide range of industries, the University helps them better understand employer expectations, strengthen their professional networks, and develop the confidence needed to enter an increasingly competitive job market.

As Arev’s experience demonstrates, the most valuable lessons often happen outside the classroom through conversations, coaching sessions, and encounters with professionals who inspire students to think bigger, challenge themselves, and actively shape their future careers.
