For students of the MSc in Luxury Management, specializing in Luxury Hospitality & Event Management, crossing the threshold of the Casino de Monte-Carlo was far more than a standard field trip. It was a high-level immersion into the beating heart of one of Europe’s most emblematic institutions, a place where the history of the Principality meets the cutting edge of modern luxury.

Walking through its historic salons, students discovered how architecture, storytelling, and atmosphere contribute to a place’s identity. The casino feels suspended in time: original gaming tables, ornate interiors, and carefully preserved spaces create an experience that blends heritage with contemporary exclusivity. A highlight of the visit was access to the renowned Privé Anglais, a restricted VIP room designed for high-profile guests, whose name reflects its historical connection to distinguished British players, such as Winston Churchill.

From History to Practice: Inside the Gaming Experience

Guided by the expertise of Tomas Bonafede, the group moved beyond the surface-level glamour to explore the casino’s evolution. They traced its journey from a visionary gamble by the Grimaldi family to a global pillar of Monaco’s reputation.

Beyond the glamour, students explored what defines a game, how gaming operations are structured, and how precision and regulation underpin every table.

The visit concluded with a hands-on roulette masterclass led by croupiers Thomas and Jeremy. More than learning the rules, students experienced the technical and cognitive demands of the dealer’s role, from mental calculation and memorisation to maintaining composure in front of a discerning clientele. The session revealed how operational excellence and customer experience intersect in high-end gaming environments.

Bridging Academic Insight and Industry Reality

Accompanied by Professor Kasha Minor and made possible through the collaboration of Eric Cicero, the visit successfully translated complex classroom theories into a tangible reality. It showcased the IUM signature experiential approach, where the city itself becomes a living classroom.

Understanding luxury hospitality means understanding the environments where heritage, exclusivity, and operational precision come together.

Kasha Minor

Hospitality Management, Digital and Technology Tourism professor

By connecting the dots between theory and practice, these future leaders left the casino with a deeper understanding of the luxury ecosystem, where every detail is intentional, and every moment is a carefully choreographed performance of excellence.
