IUM Students Design a New TV Format for TV Monaco
A university applied project at the International University of Monaco has evolved into a real-world production in the entertainment industry. TV Monaco has officially commissioned MONACO INSIDERS, an innovative interview format developed by a team of IUM students.
Originally conceived as an academic challenge aimed at engaging young digital audiences, the project quickly demonstrated strong creative and commercial potential, attracting the attention of the national broadcaster, giving our MSc in International Management and Sports Business Administration students the possibility to transform a classroom concept into a national broadcast reality and launch their professional careers on a premier European stage.
A narrative-driven approach to interviews
At the heart of the concept lies a simple observation: traditional interview formats are increasingly struggling to maintain audience engagement, while storytelling-driven content continues to perform strongly.
MONACO INSIDERS profiles key figures shaping the Principality, introducing a distinctive narrative twist. Each episode is built around a hidden personal secret revealed progressively through subtle clues during the conversation, creating suspense and encouraging viewers to stay engaged until the final reveal.
The student team validated this concept through an analysis of content consumption habits among more than 100 digital-native participants, developing a format designed to perform across both traditional television and digital platforms.
From concept to production
The project has now moved into full production. The student team is currently working on-site alongside TV Monaco production crews, contributing directly to filming and post-production processes for the pilot episode.
The first episodes feature prominent figures from the motorsport world: the professional drivers Francesco Castellacci and Chris Ingram. Filming takes place across iconic locations such as Stade Louis II, combining Monaco’s visual identity with candid, unscripted conversations.

Bridging academia and industry
This collaboration highlights the value of experiential learning within IUM programs. Working on a national television production exposes students to real operational constraints, including production timelines, talent coordination, and multi-platform distribution strategies, skills that are difficult to replicate in a classroom setting.
Monaco is home to a diverse range of remarkable personalities, and this project offers a fresh narrative lens through which to explore them.
MONACO INSIDERS stands as a strong example of how academic work can successfully translate into professional media production.
