MSc in Luxury Management

Our MSc in Luxury Management students are currently on the ground in Italy for their annual experiential study trip, an immersive week designed to take them out of the classroom and into the heart of the global luxury industry. This journey across Italy’s primary luxury hubs, including Genova, Venice, Milan, and Viareggio, provides a firsthand look at the professional world they are preparing to join.

At the core of our educational approach is the belief that experiential learning is essential. While academic theory provides a necessary framework, we believe that true luxury expertise cannot be contained within a lecture hall. Merging that foundational knowledge with real-world practice is a vital element of our program, as it allows students to transition from observing the luxury sector to understanding how it functions from the inside.

A tailored experience

To ensure the experience is highly relevant to their future careers, the itinerary is tailored to the four core specializations of the Master’s in Luxury management program.

  • Our students of the Yachting Industry specialization are currently exploring the “Blue Economy” through site visits to the Benetti and Azimut shipyards and Amico & Co, alongside high-level meetings at the Genova Yacht Club, the Genova Superyacht Hub, and Confindustria Nautica. Engaging directly with industry leaders like Pesto and Navigo provides them with a 360-degree view of the maritime ecosystem.
  • Meanwhile, the Luxury Hospitality and & Event management specialization group is moving between Venice and Milan to trace the line between heritage craftsmanship and global retail strategy. This includes time at the Emmedue and Fortuny furnaces in Murano followed by corporate sessions with brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Pomellato, Pandora, and Serapian, as well as the Armani Casa showroom.
  • For the Luxury Hospitality and Event Management specialization, students are focusing on the art of high-end service and operational excellence. They are analyzing legendary institutions like Harry’s Bar in Venice and the Gran Meliá Hotel in Milan, complemented by sessions with Acquera, Technogym, and Fendi PR & Events to gain a deep dive into luxury gastronomy and management.
  • Finally, our Luxury Brand Management specialization students are engaging with brand identity and strategic growth through professional presentations at Bain & Company and Porsche. Their journey includes visits to Elie Saab, Martina Vidal Venezia, and the Casa Sanlorenzo showroom to witness how brand DNA is maintained across diverse luxury touchpoints.

Experiential Learning as a core point of IUM educational approach

We believe in the power of firsthand experience because it allows students to decipher the nuances of craft and understand market realities in a way that no textbook can convey. This week serves as a professional transition, where theory becomes a tangible tool. By visiting these enterprises and speaking directly with industry leaders, our students are gaining the practical insights and professional confidence necessary to move seamlessly from academic study to career excellence.
