A Weekend of High-Speed Racing and Real-World Learning at IUM
The streets of Monaco roared to life on May 3rd and 4th, 2025, as the Monaco E-Prix hosted a historic double-header for the first time in its Formula E history. With 22 drivers, 11 teams, and a shared mission of promoting sustainable motorsport, the event delivered adrenaline-fueled action while pushing the boundaries of green innovation. This marked Rounds 6 and 7 of the Season 11 Formula E Championship, which spans 10 countries and stands as a symbol of the sport’s commitment to a cleaner future. Held on the legendary 3.3km Circuit de Monaco, the races offered high-speed action along Monaco’s picturesque harbour and steep hills, blending tradition with technological advancement. On Saturday, Oliver Rowland claimed victory in Round 6, while Sebastien Buemi triumphed in Round 7 on Sunday, where slippery conditions due to rain created intense, unpredictable racing. The weekend became a milestone moment for both motorsport fans and sustainability advocates, showcasing that speed and responsibility can coexist on the track.
IUM Students at the Heart of the Action
While the world watched the electric cars speed through the streets, IUM students from MSc in Sports Business Management were actively contributing behind the scenes. The event served as a hands-on learning experience, offering students the chance to immerse themselves in the operations of a world-class motorsport event.
From event management and photography to supporting logistics and guest services, students took part in a variety of tasks throughout the weekend. These real-world responsibilities gave them invaluable exposure to the inner workings of a high-pressure, fast-paced sporting environment. Beyond the excitement of race day, students gained networking opportunities, industry insights, and practical skills that align with their academic training and future career paths. The experience bridged the gap between classroom theory and real-world application, reflecting IUM’s commitment to experiential learning.

Girls on Track
On Friday, May 2nd, a panel was held at IUM in collaboration with Formula E, highlighting the wide range of career opportunities available in the motorsport industry. The event emphasized that motorsport isn’t just for drivers and engineers—it also offers diverse paths in areas such as marketing, management, media, and event planning. As part of the initiative, the “Girls on Track” program was also spotlighted, encouraging young women to explore and pursue careers in this traditionally male-dominated field. With the global sports industry growing at a rapid pace, IUM students are equipped to build successful careers across multiple sectors of the sports business world.
Looking Forward: Careers in Motorsport and Beyond
The 2025 Monaco E-Prix was more than just a race — it was a celebration of technology, sustainability, and education. For the IUM students involved, it was a career-shaping experience that brought their studies to life and opened doors into the professional world of sports business. With its forward-thinking curriculum and prime location, IUM continues to empower students to not only study the sports industry — but to become a part of it.
