A fantastic year, full of experiences and memories!
Meet with Elisabetta Mezzedimi, Italian, current student of the MSc in Luxury Management program, in the Hospitality & Event specialization.
How did you come about the idea of studying abroad?
I have chosen to study abroad to gain experience. I’ve been studying abroad since I’m 16, with a student exchange in Russia. I loved it so much that I chose to keep studying abroad and did my bachelor’s in the UK and Ireland. Then I decided to move to Monaco for my interest in the luxury field. Thus, Monaco represents the ideal place where students can learn luxury in class and experience luxury outside class.
What are your key takeaways from this program?
Before starting my master’s degree at IUM, I did a BSc in Hospitality Management. I wanted to extend my academic knowledge by enrolling in a graduate program in the field of Luxury Management. I have now a better understanding of the theoretical framework, the principles of luxury dynamics, the luxury customers, and the luxury codes.
I also learned and improved teamwork and leadership skills. Due to busy schedules, it is essential to develop time management and organizational skills.
The experiential learning approach is at the core of IUM’s strategy. Master programs provide traditional classroom learning in combination with hands-on learning opportunities. How was it in your program?
Experiential learning in IUM is one of the significant assets of the university, which allows interactive classes and discussions. In IUM, we learn by doing, and the main focus is to develop the ability to apply knowledge in real case scenarios.
My class has been working on a corporate project on the cruise industry, working with industry C-level managers, and producing a professional consulting project.
What did you enjoy most about studying at IUM?
The diverse and international environment is the main strength of the university, giving students the possibility to improve cross-cultural communication and adaptation skills. Also, intimate classrooms allow us to create strong and lifetime relationships with both students and professors. It has been a fantastic year, full of experiences and memories.
What are your plans for the future? And what advice would you give to people who decide to do this master?
I applied to the Asian track, to start an internship in Seoul and learn more about the Asian luxury market. I’d like to pursue a career in hotel management and/or F&B.
I advise future students to take advantage of all opportunities and enjoy every moment as the master year passes by very quickly.
