Business Trip for the Master in Sport Business Management students to discover the Sports Business Industry in China
In January, the MSc in Sport Business Management students went to Shanghai in China. They were welcomed by the Shanghai University of Sport to immerse in the Chinese Sport industry.
We had the amazing opportunity to visit Shanghai and to see the enormous efforts that the Chinesse Government and people are doing to develop the sports industry.
We were lucky to meet people and companies that are really making an impact in the sports world. For example, we had lectures in Shanghai University of Sport (SUS) which is the top 2 sports university in all China, said Juan Nuñez Pontones.
Discovering the Chinese Sport business industry and the traditional Culture of sport
Master in Sport Business Management students attended different lectures to better understand the Sports Business industry as well as the traditional physical culture and sports in China.
They got insights about emerging sports industry, sports governance, sports events management, distribution process, retail market, digital landscape, and the working market in sports industry in China.
Current success of Puma and The North Face were also studied.
During these ten days, they also visited Alisports, a subsidiary of the giant Alibaba, Yangpu and its innovative Sports Center (Yangpu District introduced smart sports-related facilities), the China Table Tennis Institute (CTTI) and the Benz Arena, an indoor arena located on the former grounds of Expo 2010 in Pudong.
Finally, they participated to a “Retail Mystery Shopping” organized by Prof. Aymar. With this exercice, students discovered and evaluated all the different Chinese Sport Retail Formats. Since China Sports Marketplace is the second one in the world with a world wide market share of 10%, students should be aware of which strategy international and local sport brands are using to lead and/or conquer this growing market.
Enjoying beautiful China
For most of them it was their first visit to China and this business trip was a great cultural experience as well. They had the opportunity to visit Zhu Jia Jiao Town, an ancient water town on the outskirts of Shanghai established about 1,700 years ago. They also enjoyed sighseeing with a nice dinner on the Yangpu river.
