Interview with Kresimir Miljak, MSc International Management 2021
How did you come about the idea of studying abroad?
Having being born in South Africa to Croatian parents, I have always been exposed to a multicultural dynamic. However, from a young age, I wanted to broaden these exposures and gain a real understanding of how other cultures interact with one another. Thus, I came about the decision to continue my studies abroad.
Why did you choose Monaco, IUM, and this program?
The business world of today is more complex than it has ever been before. To succeed, you need to combine the right amount of knowledge with the best possible network. And this is the reason why I chose IUM. As students in the MSc International Management program, we are taught a wide array of skills from the experts in their fields. Then we are made to apply our newly acquired knowledge through various real-time projects, enabling the student to build our professional network at an early stage.
The experiential learning approach is at the core of IUM’s strategy. Master programs provide traditional classroom learning in combination with hands-on learning opportunities. How was it in your program?
IUM has truly mastered the way students are taught. Lecture styles differ on almost every lecture basis, which comprises traditional lectures, group competitions, business-plan development, real-time discussions, and various other methods, all of which are aimed at finding new and innovative ways to solve current-day problems. Furthermore, we are provided with the opportunity to put our skills to use through various real-time projects, which include creating and managing our own Project Management events and country rebranding for clients such as the Project management Institute of France and the Monegasque Government.
What are your key takeaways from this program?
The MSc International Management program enables us to be situated in one of the most culturally dynamic countries in the world which truly exposes an individual to an environment which provides a vast amount of new opportunities – from meeting the business leaders of the world to gaining unique experience through real-time projects for actual clients, thus, enabling the ability to acquire a new and improved set of skills and a developed mindset to tackling everyday obstacles.
What are your plans for the future? And what advice would you give to people who decide to do this master?
As part of our Entrepreneurship course, we are tasked with developing a business plan that is aimed at solving a current day issue. My group members and I have developed a business plan which, we strongly believe, has a huge potential and therefore, we will pursue our idea and start our own company. My advice for anyone deciding to do this master is to enjoy and savor every moment. This master will provide you with a world of new opportunities; therefore, work hard to clench each and every opportunity as it will give you a tremendous competitive advantage once you graduate.
Named your favorite professor and tell us why?
This question gave me a little laugh as it is probably the most difficult question to answer. IUM has a wide array of professors, all industry experts in their disciplines, who take every initiative to provide us with the best methods of lecturing to build our skills so that we may reach our potentials. This is why I am much thankful for all my professors. Therefore, if I must make a choice, my favorite professor is professor Bertschy. Professor Bertschy always has and always will put her students as the utmost priority, still taking feedback and changing what has to be changed to accommodate all students to maximize our learning experience. And she always does so with a smile!
