IUM resurrected its yearly tradition of hiring out the miniature tourist train that normally winds its way around the streets of Monaco, and filled it with the new students and took a tour of the Principality on Friday evening.

The students dressed up in IUM t-shirts and boarded the train at 7pm, before it trundled off up to the Rock and around the palace. At one point the train was overtaken by Prince Albert in his special royal car which added an extra element of excitement for our new cohort.

It then came back down from the rock and wound its way through the road inside the harbor wall of Monaco to park outside Stars n Bars, where students spent 20 minutes enjoying a drink in the lazy evening sun. Then it was all back on board – except for the students who forgot to board and ended up running behind the train – to go off to the next destination: MacCarthys traditional Irish pub. This has long been a favorite in Monaco for students who want to relax over a cheap beer, and the place was soon heaving with IUM students ordering their famously inexpensive pizzas.

Last stop for the train was La Brasserie back in the harbor, another favorite spot to sit and chat over organic food and beers brewed onsite. It was a great way to introduce our Principality to the newbies, and to show Monaco how great it is to be an IUM student!
