Being in the heart of the legendary French Riviera gives the International University of Monaco the legitimacy to develop a specialized MSc in Luxury Hospitality and Event Management. This is a chance for international students to explore Monaco as an indulgent destination, but also as a place where they can understand and experience the key aspects of the service industry such as the luxury yachting industry.

To this end, the MSc in Luxury Hospitality and Event Management students had the chance to visit Asia’s Best Charter Yacht “Saluzi”, well-known in the luxury yachting industry.

Luxury Yachting Industry - MSc in Luxury Hospitality and Event ManagementThe vessel’s namesake reflects the legendary Chinese war horse from the Tang Dynasty that brought his emperor to safety despite battle wounds. In memory of this story and instantly creating worldwide recognition is the famed pink and blue reflection of Saluzi adorning each side of the yacht by artist Li Jiwei.

The group toured the striking yacht while docked in the Port of Monaco. At just over 69 meters in length, Saluzi invites up to 32 guests well taken care of by an attentive crew of up to 37.  This rare experience gave the MSc in Luxury Hospitality and Event Management students first hand views into guest operations aboard the ultimate in luxury yachting.  From the expansive sun deck with twin hot tubs to glamorous interior lounges wrapped in leather and exotic colors, everyone enjoyed stepping into the eclectic and zen world of this boat.

After the visit, Saluzi’s generous owners invited all the students to stay on board for a cocktail. Gazing out onto the setting sun over Monaco, the vessel gently swaying, we clinked glasses speaking of our favorite details.

One student, Andreea Dobrea recalls, « Sophisticated, luxurious, a piece of art: in a few words, Saluzi. An unforgettable afternoon on board, we were so lucky to be part of this experience.”

It is in this afternoon we are again reminded that in order to provide the highest level of luxury service, part of the curriculum is to live it.  If even for an hour, having the opportunity to feel the lifestyle of another world is why we chose to study at IUM. After all, where else but Monaco…
