Since 2006 IUM has developed the MSc in Luxury Management program, taking into consideration the needs of an ever-evolving segment, and working closely with large corporations and emerging brands.
Meet with Giorgia Ghisolfi, current MSc in Luxury Management student, in the Fashion and Accessories specialization.
- How did you come about the idea of studying abroad?
I have always loved the idea of living and studying in an international environment, having the opportunity to meet people from different cultures and countries.
- Why did you choose Monaco, IUM, and this program?
I chose Monaco because it represented the best combination of the international environment, the luxury world, and educational opportunities. I started studying at IUM when I was 18, doing my BBA degree. During my third year, I had the chance to start discovering the luxury world. I was fascinated by this particular world and I decided to deepen my knowledge by choosing the Master in luxury Management with a specialization in Fashion & Accessories.
- What are your key takeaways from this program?
What I appreciated the most is the practical studying approach. The different projects I carried on gave me the opportunity to get in touch and meet many professionals working in different fields both in the Monaco area and globally.
- Experiential learning approach is at the core of IUM’s strategy. Master programs provide traditional classroom learning in combination with hands-on learning opportunities. How was it in your program this year with this COVID-19 situation?
Learning by practicing has been at the core of IUM even during the lockdown. The overall system has been reshaped in order to be adapted to the situation, but for each class, we still had many projects as well as workshops and guest speakers.
Unfortunately, this year we were not able to attend the field trip. However, our program Director managed to organize several meetings with the companies we were supposed to visit personally (and not only), giving us the chance to meet and discuss with professionals from different luxury industries.
- What are your plans for the future? And what advice do you give to people who decide to do this master
My objective is to enter the luxury fashion industry following a career in the event or distribution field.
For future students, my advice would be to be always dynamic and curious. Be always open-minded and willing to discover something new, that might be an industry, a company or a person, but challenge yourself because it allows you to grow and enrich yourself both on a personal and professional level.
