On April 12th, the Master in International Management attended a panel discussion titled “Let’s take on the ocean – the future is blue!” at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco.
In the framework of the cooperation agreement between the two institutions, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation graciously invited a select number of IUM students to two events of the second edition of the Monaco Ocean Week (#MOW2018).
Led by Yvan Griboval, marine explorer and director of OceanoScientific Expeditions, the event brought together Philippe Lebaron, Director of the Observatoire Océanologique de Banyuls sur mer, Jean-Marc Fromentin, Researcher at Ifremer and Corine Pelluchon, Professor of philosophy at Paris-Est-Marne-la-Vallée University. The presenters explored various solutions for the sustainable exploitation of the Ocean for future generations, including: the ocean from a scientific point of view, humans and the sea, future renewable energies, ocean benefits for medicine and sustenance for future generations and how to establish a transversal vision of future ocean use.
Following the panel discussion, the students were invited to attend the private exclusive screening of the latest documentary film of Disneynature “BLUE”, with HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Jorge Carlos FONSECA, President of Cabo Verde, and Former French Minister for Environment and Energy and President of the COP21 Ségolène Royale in attendance.
“BLUE” is the emotional, educational and powerful story of a young dolphin. It is a dive in the heart of the ocean through which filmmaker and producer Keith SCHOLEY invited the audience to discover, understand, and love a world still mysterious and surprising.
The student participation in the MOW2018 events was an integral part of the second phase of #SDGAction24622 – the joint #CampusMonacoOceano.project launched this academic year by IUM, the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and Monaco Impact.
