With nearly 1400 participants, the ninth Crossroads was the largest such conference to date. The President of Sorbonne Nouvelle University also mentioned it was the most important academic conference in Paris in her opening speech at

UNESC0, a symbolic venue for this event.

This truly international conference brought together researchers and practitioners of cultural studies from all over the globe. The popularity of the conference obliged the academic committee to be selective. 3000 proposals have been received and double blind reviewed.

Dr. Corine Cohen, IUM professor of Luxury Marketing & Management presented her paper “Green and Sustainable Luxury”, published in the refereed proceedings of the conference.

Crossroads 2012 was characterized by the diversity of topics studied in different national and regional contexts, and by the introduction of nascent academic fields and new path of research in cultural studies.

The organization of this conference was also supported by a ring of universities in France, in Belgium and in Switzerland. Academics from prestigious institutions have agreed to help organize and to be part of the National Advisory Committee: CNRS, EHESS, Bristol University, Panthéon Sorbonne University, the American University of Paris, the University of Angers, the University of Bordeaux 2 – Victor Segalen, the University of Bruxelles (ULIB), the University of Geneva, the University of Lille 3 – Charles de Gaulle, the University of Louis Lumière – Lyon 2, the University of Michel de Montaigne – Bordeaux 3, the University of Nice – Sophia Antipolis, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Villetaneuse – Paris 13.
