Dr. Bassem Kamar, Director of Research at IUM, was invited by the Center for European Policy Studies (CEPS) as discussant and session chair at the first Sharaka workshop.

Sharaka is a two-year project co-funded by the European Commission that aims to enhance understanding and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). One of the main goals of the project is to establish closer links among EU and GCC research and academic institutions through an exchange research program involving PhD students and researchers from both regions. The presentations and roundtable discussions took place in Brussels on December 17, 2012. A number of stakeholders and experts from Europe discussed the progress made thus far by the Sharaka project as well as the research carried out on EU-GCC cooperation on trade and investments.
