International University of Monaco, Monaco, 21 September 2011Rachel is graduating from the Master in Sports Management in June 2013. During her studies at IUM, she was an intern with the Swiss Triathlon in Switzerland and with the IAAF in Monaco where she was part of the communication department: “I didn’t have a fixed position; I was mainly responsible for the social networks.”

She has found her internship through volunteering at the Herculis Meeting in Monaco. “The IAAF communication department saw me working there and asked me to help them organize an event with them.”

Ms. Laura Arcoleo, Public Relations and Social Media Manager, her supervisor, was primarily seeking an intern with knowledge of the world of athletics as well as excellent communication skills. She requires her recruits to be at least bilingual with English and French fluently spoken and written. “We also look for dynamic and proactive young people who are able to join a professional team, adapt to long working hours and manage stressful and urgent situations.”

Rachel fitted perfectly the position as she had knowledge of international marketing, PR and, of course, sport event planning from IUM; she has experience in the athletic world and also because of her dynamic personality.

Ms. Arcoleo did not regret her choice at all. “We were highly impressed by Ms. Rominger during her 6-week internship with us. Not only did Ms. Rominger fit perfectly with the sporting world she was a key element in the success of the Media Offices and Media Operations at the IAAF Centenary Gala. Ms Rominger was very dynamic, proactive and efficient, completing all the tasks that she was required to achieve in perfectly timely and professional manner.”

Rachel has already been contracted by a consultancy for a position at the World Youth Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine and the IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia, in July and August 2013 respectively. Both events are run under the governance of the IAAF and she will assist the PR Manager in all media and public relations aspects at both events.
