Looking for a "home-away-from-home"?

Your residence will be an important place for you throughout your studies at the International University of Monaco.

The Housing Office has a very efficient system that includes:

  Deals with a number of residences (appartment complexes) such as Pierre et Vacances, Vacantel (Maeva), Appartvalley, RentaflatMonaco;
  Specific agreements with local landlords -Monaco and France;
  Relationships with real estate agents specializing in furnished rentals -Monaco and France;
  Boarding with a French Family: if you decide to immerse completely into the daily life of a French or Monegasque family, some options are available in Monaco, Beausoleil and Nice (contact the Housing Office). Several organizations through France also run this scheme, they are called the Alliance Francaise, CROUS, etc.

In general, 95% of incoming students have selected final accommodation before their arrival. All students have found and moved into transitional or final accommodation upon arrival.

Housing Subsidy from the French government

If you live and pay rent in France, it is possible to receive a housing subsidy from the French government.

What you need in order to apply

  A copy of your valid passport;
  A copy of your valid residency permit in France;
  A proof of Residence called "Attestaion de logement" (enclosed) signed by your landlord;
  A French or Monégasque bank account number called "Relevé d’Identité Bancaire".

It is possible to receive the housing subsidy even if you are not a French resident. As long as you study in Monaco or France and pay rent in France, you are able to apply. Once you have applied, the Centre d'Allocations Familiales (CAF) will let you know whether you qualify and how much the subsidy will be. Please remember to make photocopies of all documents for your own reference.

It takes between 1 and 3 months to get some money. It is thereful highly unlikely for exchange/study abroad students staying for one semester to be eligible to receive these funds.

What you need to do

  Obtain a valid residency card "carte de séjour".
The date on your residency card is important because the start of your subsidy will depend on that. Do not wait too long to apply for your residency card.



  Open a French or a Monegasque bank account. Once your bank account is open, you need to give the C.A.F an original "Relevé d'Identité Bancaire" (i.e RIB: your bank references). Your bank will provide you with a RIB. The C.A.F will directly transfer the housing subsidy to this account.

  Provide proof of where you live in France: "Attestation d'Hébergement".
The application form needs to be filled out by your landlord or the management of the establishment where you live.

  Declare your taxable income "Imposition sur le revenu". You need to declare your income for the two years prior to your application (e.g. in 2002, you need to declare income from 2000 and 2001). If you did not earn anything you just check "0" in the "income section" on your application form.

  Then go on the CAF website www.caf.fr and click on the left on:
- "étudiants" - "aide au logement" - "faire une demande" You have to fill out all the requested information.

Check your entire file to make sure it is complete, and then send it to the CAF at the following address:
"CAF des Alpes-Maritimes 06175 Nice Cedex 2".
The CAF will send you a letter with the final decision.

Procedures and agreements

Students (prospective and incoming) are asked to fill out the Accommodation Request. This document allows students to express their wishes and preferences and give their average monthly budget.

Except in apartment complexes, which can be considered as "standard", there is no "standard" room or apartment. Based on your Accommodation Request, the Housing Office will start focusing on your housing choices; send you some decriptions and pictures of the categories of housing available.
