Program Description
The Master's in Finance (MFIN) at the International University of Monaco (IUM) is a 10-month, 54-credit program
completed in three 12-week terms.
The MFIN has been developed in response to profound changes in the finance sector. Driven by the significant growth of
institutional money currently being deployed, the sector faces novel challenges on a global scale that spur constant
innovation, and an increasing level of sophisticated analysis and action.
In this milieu today's finance professionals will be required to understand and manipulate alternative investments as
well as traditional financial assets - in emerging and established markets. A strong foundation in stocks and bonds,
currencies, and mutual and index funds combined with specialized knowledge of high-yield bonds and distressed
securities, derivatives, securitizations and structured products, hedge funds, private equity and venture capital,
commodities, and real estate will be a prerequisite to success in the finance sector.
To meet this demand the MFIN offers students the opportunity to progress from a generalist perspective that introduces
the theory and application of corporate finance, investment management, and international banking to a focused
treatment of financial specializations through three pathways: financial engineering, hedge funds and private equity,
and international wealth management.

The Principality of Monaco forms an exceptional backdrop to a dynamic and diversified economic entity. At the
crossroads of European financial activity and with a network of more than seventy banks and financial institutions - as
well as the very highest standards of confidentiality and security - Monaco offers one of the finest banking systems in
the world. The Principality has become a leading financial and banking center that provides an extensive range of
financial services for businesses as well as a range of wealth management services.
The MFIN takes full advantage of the University's location in the Principality of Monaco. IUM students are often in
contact with fund managers, wealth managers, investors, traders, and analysts who reside in the Principality or attend
IUM-sponsored international conferences and guest lectures.
In this context, IUM serves as an incubator for a wide range of synergies, from the complete support of the government
to the full involvement of the business community. The MFIN leverages these relationships by integrating the knowledge
and experience of practitioners working in this setting into the classroom through teaching, round table discussions,
and guest lectures.
Finally, the MFIN imparts a systematic understanding of financial instruments and markets, and a working knowledge of
the investment strategies they underlie. It aims to prepare highly-skilled and reliable professionals who will make a
positive contribution to the finance industry, making them desirable candidates for positions with a variety of firms
worldwide.
