The International University of Monaco Celebrates Graduation in Monte Carlo
Set in possibly the most glamorous and luxurious place in the world, it seems only right that the International University of Monaco (IUM), had one of the most prestigious and celebrated graduation ceremonies in the world.
On 26th June 2010, 126 students, hailing from 40 countries, received their diplomas in the stunning Salle Garnier of the famous Opera de Monte Carlo. Thirty two students graduated from our Bachelor of Science in Business Administration program, as well as 17 from the Master’s in Finance, 23 with an MSc in Luxury Goods and Services, our first cohort of 12 Masters in Global Affairs and International Relations, 27 MBA and 4 Executive MBAs, our first 3 Doctorate students and 8 students from our campuses in China.

IUM was honoured to have their graduation opened with a speech from Mr. Masseron, Government Officer for Internal Affairs, who congratulated Maxime Crener on his career at IUM and the work he has done for the students.
The President and Dean, Dr Maxime Crener, finds the graduation ceremony the highlight of his year, as the small size of the university means he is able to get to know the students individually. As it was his last graduation as Dean of the university, he left the students with some wise words of advice: “As you too, are leaving IUM today, here are a few points I would like you to remember from your experience at IUM. Go for what you really want to do and be passionate about it. Be humble and patient but never compromise yourself or your ideals, as the easy way might not be the right way. Be responsible and accountable for your actions. Be open-minded, embrace change and differences. Be creative and be yourself; do not follow the herd and above all always strive to do good, in your personal and professional lives. As you are all highly privileged, never forget to show compassion to others. As Steve Jobs puts it: “stay hungry, stay foolish”!”
We were fortunate enough to be joined by Mr Mario Moretti Polegato, Chairman of the Geox Group, who gave an inspiring speech to students.
Societe Generale provided the 1,000 euro prize for each of the students who won the Valedictorian prize. It was an all female line up as the winning students were: BSBA student Charlotte Jarlholm (Danish), MBA student Sabrina Tessier (Canadian), MIBGA student Holly Basile (Italian), Luxury Goods student Sneha Rupani (Singaporean) and Ieva Vitkeviciute (Lithuanian) for the Master in Finance.

The Best School Spirit Award was a stunning Parmigiani watch presented by Mr Philippe Perreard of Parmigiani to MLux student A. Aziz Niasse (Senegal).

But the glitz and glamour of Monte Carlo didn’t stop after the ceremony. Following a champagne reception in the Opera Yard, the students made a quick dash back to their local residencies to change into beautiful ball gowns and tuxedos for the Gala Dinner on the terrace of the Fairmont Hotel, where they enjoyed exceptional views across the Mediterranean.

But now the partying and celebrating is over, the graduating students can take pride in themselves as confident business people and entrepreneurs of tomorrow, as they enter the business world.
