English as Second Language / TOEFL Professor

Scope

Through a variety of classroom methods and techniques, the Instructor teaches ESL to a multicultural group of non-English speakers to:
  train the general population to pass the TOEFL or other standard proficiency test
  prepare BS candidates to their Business Administration studies while studying for the TOEFL.

The instructor will also teach in the Communication courses series to reinforce the language mechanics as well as coach students on both academic and professional uses of it.

Job Summary

The ESL Instructor is responsible for IEL / ESL and English courses. Main tasks include assisting with placement and proficiency evaluations, collaborating with the academic program in curriculum development, instructing students in a classroom setting, and assisting with their continuous progress throughout the 3 year program (via mentoring, support duties etc.)

Faculty will have an opportunity to work with other faculty members in shaping English for International Students coursework to meet the needs of our international student population.

Principal Responsibilities

  Instruct students with various levels of fluency for test and academic purposes
  Assist in conducting and assessing placement and proficiency evaluations
  Collaborate with the BSBA program faculty
  Research and implement use of technology in the classroom
  Organize and/or monitor an English help desk

Required Skills

  Native-speaker level proficiency in English
  Ability to utilize technology for the ESL classroom
  Familiarity with traditional as well as blended educational methodologies & digital material
  Ability to collaborate with instructor teams

Minimum Qualifications

  Master’s Degree in TESOL or a closely related field

Preferred Qualifications

  Experience teaching English in an intensive English language program
  Experience teaching English to a multicultural student body
  Experience teaching young adults (use of web site, multimedia material etc.)
  Experience living in a non-English speaking country
  Fluency in a second language (French preferred but not required)
